Asia/Pacific Receptive to Home Networking

Broadband access and PC ownership creating huge home networking opportunity in Asia/Pacific

Interest in advanced home networking applications is building in the Asia/Pacific region, reports In-Stat.  Although home automation, home security, and network support services remain at the early stage of market adoption, home PC users in the region are receptive to them, the high-tech market research firm says.  This conclusion is based on the results of a recent In-Stat consumer survey of PC users in six Asia/Pacific nations.  "Early adopters of digital home devices/applications in the Asia/Pacific region are in both developed and developing economies," says Victor Liu Zhoujiao, In-Stat analyst.  "People are actively seeking affordable solutions to improve their home connectivity and quality of information for work and entertainment at home."

Recent research by In-Stat found the following:

1. Cable modem and xDSL remain the two major choices of broadband connections in the Asia/Pacific region, while fixed broadband wireless and FTTH/X are emerging as mainstream options.

2. More than 60% of survey respondents have more than one PC at home.

3. About half of respondents that intend to purchase a network router have indicated the intent to go to retail shops for their purchase.
