Future Direction for Systems Integrators: Did you know? CCTV is a device of access control!

The security market indicates that systems integrators are going to have to become more proficient with access control software, as CCTV is a device of access control, according to PCSC, a manufacturer of integrated access control systems. The end user has many more needs than just surveillance, and, therefore, would enjoy one software program that will be able to not only cater for their CCTV needs, but also, control their ¡®sites¡¯ or operation.

A software platform of access control provides more benefits than CCTV software to the end user because it 1) provides a more secure site by way of remotely closing down or locking up areas of concern; 2) is used to control site equipment or machinery remotely; 3) reduces the amount of faulty alarms; manages the site more easily and efficiently; and 4) makes use of third party software more efficiently, such as, object monitoring, time and attendance monitoring, or financial department software that may be needed.

Access Control Software is more able to provide a total solution than CCTV software, therefore, provides a greater demand in the vertical market arena of building security, bank security, prison security, border security, perimeter security, port and cargo security, hospital security, military and defense security, universities and school security and oil refineries and factories.

Growing End User Needs

End user demand for the following systems grow:

  • CCTV surveillance, building control, such as opening or locking up doors, people traffic control or time management monitoring, operating electric or electronic equipment, such as switching on and off lights, air conditioning, machines, to mention but a few
  • Transport management control
  • Enhanced security, such as biometric identification along with card access with the CCTV imaging
  • Financial control over collections or deliveries of items or services
  • Time & attendance
  • Visitor control
