R&D
Today, Genetec¡¯s research and development team represents almost 80% of its team.
As its solutions are able to support various international languages and environmental contexts, it pro-actively markets, promotes and sells its IP access control, license plate recognition and video surveillance solutions to countries all over the world. To support the regional demand, it has established corporate offices in Paris, France; Madrid, Spain; and Dubai, UAE. It has also set up remote sales offices as well as partnerships with value-added distributors who provide regional pre- and post-sale support for its solutions to the local system integration community throughout North America, Latin America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific.
More so, attending major industry events in these regions is a prime focus in its strategy towards steady international expansion. In 2008, Genetec attended over 80 international security and public safety events, generating impeccable exposure, market visibility and sales leads for its full suite of innovative solutions.

INTERVIEW
|
Pierre Racz, CEO, Genetec |
¡°We are committed to facing the difficulties, to overcoming the obstacles and to cooperating with other likeminded organizations to provide our users with innovative solutions.¡±
Over the years, Genetec has established itself as the leader in innovative networked security solutions by employing a high level of flexibility and forward-thinking principles into the development of its technical and business solutions. In this interview with Amanda Kim, Editor of SecurityWorld INTL, Pierre Racz, CEO of Genetec, talks about the companys growth factor, competitive edges and vision.
What do you think is the current status of the global IP-based security market?
Right now there is a glut of devices on the market that are not all very good quality. There is a clean-up that is required. Unfortunately, this is putting pressure on solution providers to manufacture inferior devices that are supposed to function at the same level of quality engineered products. Some customers don¡¯t realize the cost of buying good equipment and simply fall in love with equipment that doesn¡¯t work well. The good thing about this cluttered market is that people are getting both NTSC and PAL resolution, there is peace at last.
What are the key factors that drive Genetec¡¯s growth?
The innovations in our products and in our business have driven Genetec¡¯s growth. The scalability of our solutions due to their unique open-architecture and the management of metadata are examples. Our solutions also are able to manage the current demand of increasing number of cameras, and are able to effectively intertwine with operations. As a company, we have been invested in the market for years and are positioned to continually service the market.
How Genetec¡¯s technologies perform today in terms of contributing to the world?
As the world is taking its first steps on the road to sustainable growth in an increasingly crowded and resource-constrained globe with conflicting world views, the need for security will only increase.
Two technological paradigms collide in the race to meet the demand for enhanced security tools -- the one-stop shop closed architecture and the technologically diverse open architecture. At first glance, the closed architecture may seem easier, but is in fact short sighted.
We believe that the open architecture is the right way to go because the large complex requirements of future systems cannot be solved by a single organization. It is only through the cooperation of several talented organizations and an active user population that truly useful innovation can emerge. We are committed to facing the difficulties, to overcoming the obstacles and to cooperating with other likeminded organizations to provide our users with innovative solutions.
What are some of the potential IP video surveillance applications?
There is potential for much more than security in video surveillance applications since they have the means to improve overall operational efficiencies. The key potentials are to increase wealth and work towards sustainable development, to basically do more with IP video surveillance and consume less energy and physical resources.
Please tell us the competitive edges that differentiate Genetecs services from your competitors.
We have always taken an information technology point of view in the design of products and services. We develop systems designed to fit the eco-system of the products and collaborate with other like-minded organizations to enhance end-user applications. We differ from companies who produce boxes, without seeing how these boxes fit in the actual eco-system.
What do you think are the new areas of opportunities for Genetec now or in future?
The explosion of computing capabilities will usher in a new era of powerful functions and ease-of-use for end-users. Friendlier and engaging user interfaces, applications that adapt intelligently to the way users work and increased productivity through simplicity are trends that cut across industry boundaries.
Where will Genetec put its focus this year, in terms of both sales and technology development?
Genetec will concentrate on the same areas as it always has in the past -- develop productivity tools and increase wealth generation capacity for end users.
