Italian Minister speaks at ID WORLD 2007 in Milan

On November 28, Professor Luigi Nicolais, Italian Minister for Public Administration Reform and Innovation, addressed the audience of the Citizen ID Forum taking place within ID WORLD 2007. His participation included a hand over ceremony with the representatives of the Minister of Interior of the United Arab Emirates, where the next edition will be held.

The Italian Minister for Public Administration Reform and Innovation participated as a speaker in the sixth ID WORLD International Congress, the annual world summit on automatic identification.  The event took place on November 26-28, 2007 at the Milanofiori Congress Center in Milan.  ID WORLD is the most comprehensive showcase on the evolving world of auto ID technologies and is the only international forum that looks at the auto ID industry as a whole rather than focusing on a specific technology or vertical sector.  It offers a full-scale and complete vision of social, technological and business aspects related to the deployment of automatic identification systems.
Minister Nicolais spoke during the Citizen ID Forum and presented the projects that best illustrate the state-of-the-art infrastructure being deployed by the Public Administration in Italy in order to better serve its citizens, including the electronic national ID card and the Citizen Card.
¡°We just introduced new technical rules that specify the functionality of the electronic National ID card: not only will it be used as an ID document but also as a credential that allows citizens to access the services provided by the Public Administration,¡± the Minister said.
¡°Furthermore, the price of the Electronic Identity Card for the citizen has been reduced to 10 euro.¡±
Other advanced government-driven citizen ID projects were also illustrated during the conference.

Direct contributions came from the representatives of the governments of Germany, Spain, United Arab Emirates, Iran, Morocco and Pakistan.
Minister Nicolais symbolically handed over the Citizen ID Forum to the government of the United Arab Emirates, represented by H.E. Darwish A.
Al-Zarouni, Director General of the Emirates Identity Authority, and Brig. Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi, General Director Central Operations of Abu Dhabi Police, United Arab Emirates.
The next edition of the Citizen ID Forum will be organized by Wise Media on February 25-26 in Abu Dhabi with the patronage of the Minister of Interior of the United Arab Emirates, His Highness Sheik Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan and with the endorsement of the European Commission represented at the ceremony of November 28 by Cecilia Joanna Verkleij, Head of Sector at the European Commissions Directorate-General Justice, Freedom and Security.
The ID WORLD International Congress boasts an incredibly successful track record.
Founded as a round table on the topic of automatic identification in 2002, today the annual event attracts the most important players of the international community.
This year¡¯s edition has received the endorsement of the European Community, the Italian Ministry of Interior and the Presidenza del Consiglio dei Ministri.
More than 140 speakers have actively contributed to this year¡¯s ID WORLD conference, including Dr. Frank Paul, HD Unit Large-scale IT systems - DG JFS, European Commission, Sebastian Muriel, Director General - Red.es Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Commerce, Ian Neill, Deputy Director, eBorders Programme - UK Home Office, Gert Versluis, Deputy General Director, INS - Dutch Ministry of Justice, Brig.
