New online degree in fire & safety engineering technology

Eastern Kenturcky University will provide new online degree in fire &safety engineering technology in Fall 07

Beginning this fall, Eastern Kentucky University will deliver its expertise in fire and safety education to students around the country by offering its Bachelor of Science in Fire & Safety Engineering Technology completely online.  The program is one of only a handful of bachelor degrees with a focus on fire protection administration offered in the United States, and it is backed by one of the most distinguished faculty in the world. Online classes toward the degree will begin August 20, 2007.  In addition to the Bachelors degree, Eastern Kentucky will be offering an online Fire & Safety Engineering Technology Certificate option for fire safety professionals who do not wish to enter the full degree program.  The Fire & Safety Engineering Technology Certificate is comprised of core courses focusing on fire protection administration offered by Eastern Kentucky and will also be available this fall.
Students will study disaster preparedness, emergency scene operations, fire behavior and combustion, hazardous materials, and arson investigation, among other topics. They will also be able to apply their on-the-job knowledge in practicum and cooperative learning situations.
Eastern Kentuckys fire protection administration curriculum is delivered by the universitys department of Loss Prevention & Safety. A total of 128 credits are required to earn the Bachelors degree.
