AuthenTec adds security to new LG-Nortel IP Phone

AuthenTec announced that its fingerprint sensors are being integrated into LG-Nortel IP phone 8540 - an innovative new phone which utilizes Microsofts Unified Communications (UC) solutions.

The award-winning AuthenTec AES1510 sensor enhances the security of the IP Phone 8540 by granting access only to authorized users, while also personalizing the phone for the currently registered user, thereby protecting valuable corporate data assets and sensitive company information.

AuthenTecs AES1510 slide sensor is contoured into the top of the IP Phone 8540 within easy reach of the phones keypad and user handset. The sensor is used to authenticate the user of the phone with a simple swipe of a finger, ensuring that only authorized users are granted access to personal and corporate information such as voicemail, call logs, contact lists and calendars.

"The innovative new LG-Nortel IP Phone 8540 is a great example of how our fingerprint sensors are being integrated into a diverse set of devices and applications providing a layer of security for sensitive corporate and personal data and information," said AuthenTec President Larry Ciaccia. "Our AES1510 slide sensor is being imbedded into several new devices which support Microsofts Unified Communications platform, and we are pleased that LG-Nortel chose our fingerprint sensor for this first-of-a-kind product."

"AuthenTecs sensors enhance the security of the LG-Nortel IP Phone 8540 by enabling a biometric fingerprint log-in to protect sensitive information, including company voicemail," said JD An, Vice President of LG-Nortel. "This further enhances the rich feature set of the IP Phone 8540, which is designed to help businesses increase productivity by simplifying the way employees communicate."

LG-Nortel IP Phone 8540 is one of the companys three innovative new communications products designed for Microsoft Communications Server 2007 and Office Communicator 2007. It features a 5.7-inch color touch screen LCD and delivers users an improved experience through rich features, including high quality wideband audio for clearer voice communication and powerful presence information. The LG-Nortel IP Phone 8540 is planned to be widely available worldwide in Q4 2007.

Already designed into the majority of todays most innovative fingerprint sensor enabled cell phones, AuthenTecs sensors are the smallest on the market and feature AuthenTecs award-winning Power of Touch(TM) functionality, enabling manufacturers to easily and cost-effectively add security, convenience, navigation and personalization controlled by the simple swipe of a finger. The AES1510 is another of AuthenTecs portfolio of slide sensors that uses patented TruePrint¢ç technology which reads below the surface of the skin to the live layer, where a persons true fingerprint resides. This unique subsurface approach enables AuthenTec sensors to read virtually every fingerprint, every time.
