Protection One launches Web-based home security service

Protection One, Inc. took the next step in the evolution of home security by introducing e-Secure, the companys new Web-based and text message-based home security service.

e-Secure customers have convenient access to their own home security systems, even when theyre away.  The service allows subscribers to monitor and control their security systems using any Internet-connected computer, PDA or text-enabled cell phone and delivers real-time notifications of important events via e-mails or text messages.

Protection Ones e-Secure is able to notify a customer of alarm events, such as break-ins or the presence of smoke or carbon monoxide.  Additionally, e-secure provides notifications for non-alarm events such as the opening of medicine cabinet doors, pool gates, gun cabinets, or if other dangerous areas are accessed.  e-Secure can also notify Protection One customers when environmental accidents happen, like water leaks and temperature extremes, which may damage valuables or hurt pets.

"Were excited to offer our current and future customers this security system enhancement," said Richard Ginsburg, Protection Ones president and CEO.  "Every Protection One customer will still receive our advanced, central-station monitoring, but e-Secure customers will also receive enhanced control and monitoring of their security systems.  By taking a more active role in their security, e-Secure subscribers have the power to react quickly to events that may not require an emergency dispatch of authorities."

The e-Secure online user site allows Protection One customers to check on their alarm system status, arm or disarm their systems, manage users and codes, and set up notification details, among other functions.  Users of e-Secure can then receive e-mail and text-message alerts when user-defined activity is detected.

"Weve worked closely with Honeywell to develop an advanced, 128-bit encrypted site that allows our customers to securely and directly communicate with their alarm panels," said Ginsburg.  "Weve also made the user interface customer friendly and intuitive, so that anyone who can use the Web will be able to fully utilize e-Secure."

"e-Secure is particularly helpful for our customers who have children at home, elderly parents in their care, a busy lifestyle, and/or important assets to protect," Ginsburg added.  "Our philosophy has been squarely focused on serving our customers with products that meet their growing and changing needs, and e-Secure is a result of that focus.  We constantly strive to keep pace with our customers active lifestyles and, with e-Secure, weve found a way to truly serve them better."
