Alarm.com to donate new home to those in need

Alarm.com, a provider of wireless, Web-enabled interactive security and monitoring system technology, has partnered with Independent Luxury Homes, an organization that designs and builds custom homes in single family neighborhoods, to donate a new home to an individual or family with special needs in Ramsey, Minnesota, the United States.

The home -- called Hope House -- has an estimated value of US$400,000 and will be donated to someone with a need for a barrier-free or handicap- accessible home.  It will come equipped with an Alarm.com wireless security system, professionally installed by WebCo, one of over 450 authorized Alarm.com Dealers nationwide.  The package includes one year of free Alarm.com service.

¡°We are thrilled to have Alarm.com as a partner for our first annual home donation,¡± said Carol Stafford with Independent Luxury Homes.  ¡°In addition to providing reliable security for the Hope House and its new owner, Alarm.com¡¯s enhanced monitoring technology will offer convenience and everyday usability that other, traditional security systems lack.  Because we will be giving the home to an individual or family with special accessibility requirements, we wanted to address all possible lifestyle needs within the home. Alarm.com fit right in.¡±

The Alarm.com system provides always-on sensor activity monitoring through the Web, allowing users to log in from any Web-enabled computer or handheld device to see the real-time status of door, window, cabinet or motion sensors installed at the property.  Users also can receive voice, e-mail and text message alerts if activity is reported by certain sensors during times when it may indicate a serious problem, like the front door opening in the middle of the night.  Inactivity monitoring is also available, which alerts users when the entire system, a specific sensor, or a set of sensors has not reported activity for a designated period of time, indicating the resident might be in trouble and in need of assistance.

¡°Alarm.com is happy to help Independent Luxury Homes with such an important initiative,¡± said Steve Trundle, CEO of Alarm.com.  ¡°Individuals with special needs deserve to have access to affordable housing that addresses those needs.  We hope our technology can provide security and safety to the new owners, and peace of mind to their family.¡±

The fully-furnished Hope House features Universal Design, eliminating the need to leave a home or spend thousands of dollars remodeling or retrofitting accessibility features as an injured, disabled or aging person¡¯s needs change.  Hope House also incorporates many Green Build standards and low energy consumption principles into the design, including EnergyStar appliances and non-toxic stains, paints and flooring, and recycled building materials.

Independent Luxury Homes will donate a similar home each year to a recipient in need.
