D-tec targets far east market with video smoke detection training

CCTV camera-based Video Smoke Detection (VSD) pioneer, D-Tec – part of AD Group - has undertaken an intensive three-day training session in Hong Kong for its partners in the Far East, the first time that the company has delivered this type of event in the region.

The in-depth training was designed to strengthen D-Tec¡¯s relationship with its key partners in this fast growing area, and to offer them valuable back-up and support as they expand the customer base in the Far East for VSD technology.

In Hong Kong, the itinerary focused primarily on sales and product training for D-Tecs latest generation of VSD systems and covered typical applications in voluminous areas where detecting smoke at source gives it a major advantage over conventional detection technologies. Sessions also concentrated on future hardware and software developments and all aspects of the companys powerful, NetVu Connected, FireVu solution, including a series of hands-on demonstrations.

Companies represented at the Hong Kong event included: Deluge Fire (Singapore), G4S (Hong Kong), GST (China), Shinwha Electronics (South Korea), Altech (Japan) and Constant Fire (Taiwan).

Wayne Lee, Director, Constant Fire, who was one of the attendees, commented: "The training event has proved extremely valuable as it has allowed us to fully appreciate the real potential of D-Tec systems such as FireVu; where they can be most effective, and it has ensured that we are best equipped to undertake commissioning work for future customers and to offer long-term maintenance support."

Ian Moore, Managing Director at D-Tec who was part of the three-strong team delivering the training, said: "The event in Hong Kong, organized by Malcolm Gatenby, D-Tec¡¯s Export Manager for the Far East, follows on from a very successful session held in Dubai last November for our partners in the Middle East region and underlines our determination to maintain D-Tecs position as the global leader in video smoke detection.

"Looking ahead, there is little doubt that the Far East is going to be an extremely important region for D-Tecs future development. Already there is tremendous interest in our latest FireVu IP based Video Smoke Detection (VSD) system with China showing a strong surge in business – doubling year-on-year for the last three years. Parallel to this we have witnessed an expansion in the range of applications being considered for this technology - beyond the more usual aircraft hangars or industrial plants - to include large warehouses and even gymnasiums. This move into new sectors is being driven, I believe, by the proven capability of the technology to deliver an effective, timely, response to potential incidents and, crucially, the favourable cost of ownership of our VSD technology compared to more conventional solutions."
