Honeywell protects 12,300 new Houston homes

Web-enabled technology offers homeowners remote access, can help lower energy costs

Honeywell announced it will provide Land Tejas Companies its VISTA Internet Connection Module (ICM), 6270 TouchCenter keypad and Honeywell structured wiring solutions for six housing developments totaling about 12,300 new homes in Houston, Texas, the United States.  The lifestyle- and safety-enhancing technology can also help conserve energy.

VISTA ICM allows homeowners to integrate and control security with heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) from any Web-enabled PC or mobile device such as a laptop, PDA or cell phone.  For example, homeowners can arm their security systems via the Internet and remotely preset a temperature to reduce energy consumption when the home is unoccupied.  When the homeowner returns and disarms the security system, the HVAC can automatically reset to a comfortable temperature.  The VISTA ICM also can be programmed to send a signal to shut down ventilation airflow during a fire to help stop the spread of smoke.

¡°We wanted to partner with Honeywell because it has proven itself to be an industry leader in developing technology,¡± said Al Brende, Land Tejas co-founder.  ¡°The VISTA ICM¡¯s ability to conserve energy and allow control of HVAC and security systems over the Internet made it an ideal complement to our progressive standards of built-in technology.¡±

Homeowners can also control their security system functions through a simple interface design on the 6270 TouchCenter keypads.  With the keypad, homeowners can access an event log that tells them when the security system has been turned on or off.  The log can allow parents to see when their children returned home and whether they armed the system afterward.  The keypad also includes a built-in message center where users can record and playback messages.
