Stretch partners Micron Technology for enhanced video surveillance solutions

Stretch(R) Inc. has announced their cooperation with Micron Technology, Inc. for the development of technology solutions for the video surveillance industry. In order to eliminate the need for glue logic between Microns image sensors and Stretchs software configurable processor, the two companies began working together more than a year ago, during the development of Stretchs S6000 family of devices. Since that time, the relationship has grown to encompass not only device-level engineering compatibility, but also joint marketing activities and cooperation on system-level solutions.

The first result of the relationship is the Stretch IP Camera Reference Design Kit (RDK) (see press release: "Stretch Inc. Introduces High-Definition Multi-Standard Intelligent IP Camera Reference Design Kit") that seamlessly supports a variety of Micron image sensors, from standard definition up to 2 Megapixel resolution. The RDK includes software that controls the innovative electronic pan/tilt/zoom features in Micron image sensors and also provides a direct analog output converted from the standard digital output of the sensors.

"Microns high-resolution image sensors for the security market have exceeded the H.264 video encoding capability of standard DSPs and ASSPs and Stretchs solutions are very powerful and cost effective," stated Rene Hartner, Microns director of security and surveillance imaging marketing. "The combination of Microns image sensors with Stretchs devices, software, and reference designs will help speed the adoption of high-definition IP network cameras for video surveillance and other applications."

The companies plan to continue to work together in co-development of future reference designs, software solutions, and devices. Commenting on the relationship, Bob Beachler, Stretchs vice president of marketing said, "Micron has been leading the development of quality high-definition image sensor technology. We are looking forward to continuing our work with them, providing solutions that will allow our mutual customers to develop more cost-effective IP network cameras with enriched feature sets."
