Bosch Security Systems has provided an IP-based CCTV system for surveillance of the Goldisthal plant and six other hydroelectric installations on the river Saale near Rudolstadt and the river Wisenta near Schleitz. The video monitoring and control center is located at Goldisthal, which receives signals from the 11 AutoDome and five fixed cameras connected in a WAN over the seven sites. Data from the cameras is MPEG-4 compressed by three of Bosch’s VideoJet 8008 eight-channel IP encoders and transmitted over a bandwidth of only 1MB to produce high-quality images. In addition to the above-ground surveillance, CCTV cameras monitor the generating machinery, located in two large caves some hundreds of meters under the Thuringer Schieferbirge mountain near Goldisthal.

Remote control of the entire system – the furthest distant cameras are located 217 kilometers from Goldisthal – is provided by Bosch’s VIDOS video Management System. Automated guard tours (salvos), a VIDOS feature, are provided for all sites, without the need of security personnel. Supplementing the video surveillance and monitoring system at Goldisthal, Bosch has also provided additional security facilities, including fire and intrusion detection, alarm and control and an external, self-sufficient video system. Management of these additional systems is provided by Bosch’s Building Integration System (BIS), one of the most comprehensive planning, installation and enterprise management software solutions available today.
