AMG Systems Ltd. thas been contracted by Dublin City Council (DCC) to supply its new innovative fiber optic transmission system Guardian-Lite™ 3700 for traffic management and control of Dublin City and surrounding motorways.
The announcement follows AMG’s breakthrough in launching the world’s first fiber optic transmission system to integrate Ethernet with high quality uncompressed video.  This was subsequently selected for the UK Highways Agency’s National Roads Telecommunications Services (NRTS) project.
In an open tender competition covering all of the DCC traffic department fiber optic transmission needs around Dublin, AMG systems was chosen for the supply of drop and insert fiber optic transmission network equipment linking CCTV, traffic signal controllers and other traffic management equipment to the Council’s control room.
AMG equipment is already installed in the Dublin area, having been chosen initially to supply the real-time, digital video and data network for the traffic cameras and signal controllers on the M50 Motorway.  Later installations cover the M1, N11 and some city center cameras.  The new tender builds on those installations, extending the existing camera surveillance networks and adding new projects.

“The uncompressed video stream from each camera gives us a real-time view of our traffic flows.  We can also monitor the progress of the emergency services in dealing with any traffic incidents, benefiting both those immediately involved and other motorists.
“When we looked at our fiber optic transmission requirements for this year, we realized that AMG’s systems -- particularly with the new Ethernet capability -- would allow us to continue innovating as we expanded our state-of-the-art traffic control network.”
