Westcountry Security wins regional installer of the year award

Plymouth-based electronic security installer, Westcountry Security, has been awarded the Urmet Domus ¡®Southern Region Installer of the Year Award¡¯, announced at IFSEC 2007. Westcounty Security is part of Chubb Electronic Security, a leading security specialist. Chubb Electronic Security is part of UTC Fire & Security, a unit of United Technologies Corp.

The award, for installers of the Urmet Domus range of audio and video entry products, recognises the quality of workmanship carried out by companies installing the Urmet Domus systems.
Westcountry Security won the prize in recognition of its work at the Royal William Yard regeneration project in Plymouth, which saw the conversion of two buildings within the yard, originally built as a Victualling Yard during the early part of the 19th Century and steeped in naval history, to create 133 new apartments. As part of the project, Westcountry Security installed the door entry system for Brewhouse and Clarence House, using the Urmet Digivoice digital system, to allow residents to control who has access to the apartments.
The system includes an integrated call button at each entrance panel to allow visitors to contact the concierge, and has been configured to interface with a proximity access control to six doors across the site. Westcountry Security also commissioned the manufacture of stainless steel posts to provide a robust and aesthetically attractive housing for the K-Steel polished stainless steel entrance panels, enabling residents to call from the entrance panel whilst at the same time being able to view the visitor from a TV screen.
¡°This was a complex project with demanding standards, and we had to take a methodical approach to ensure we complied with the contractors requirements to stage the handover of individual floors,¡± explained Paul Lawson, Business Development Manager for Westcountry Security.
"The judging was carried out by an independent panel of judges," said Mark Hagger, Urmet Domuss Sales Director. "The judges told us that it was a major challenge deciding who should be the winners as all the entries this year were of a very high standard.¡±
The UK Installer of the Year was chosen from a short list comprising three regional award winners. The overall prize was awarded to Sutton and Birmingham based JLG Security, while Manchester based Fibre Optics UK Ltd received the award for the Northern Region. As winner of the Southern region award, Westcountry Security received a trophy and a cheque for ¡Ì250 payable to a charity of its choice, during a special presentation.
Westcountry Security is the largest electronic security installation company in the South West, with over 18,000 satisfied clients throughout the UK and Europe. Westcountry Security offers a comprehensive range of security services, from the design and installation of intruder alarms, CCTV, access control systems and fire alarms through to manned guarding and keyholding services.
