SENKOADL CCTV lens installed in a major traffic observation exerise

Fixed focal length lenses from SENKOADL have been installed recently in a major traffic observation exercise being conducted by Edinburgh City Council.

The 2/3¡± format lenses are 35mm and 50mm models which are being used predominantly from USB board cameras.

Over 50 of the lenses have been deployed.  The camera/lens assemblies are mounted on traffic light poles at major roads leading in and out of the city with images being recorded digitally for review by Council traffic managers.

The video equipment gives City traffic analysts information about journey times and congestion spots. There is no chargeable aspect to the monitoring [as with the London Congestion Charge] but the footage is allowing the Council to make informed decisions about peak traffic flow times and locations where traffic calming measures might be beneficial.

The exercise does not involve live monitoring; footage is analysed retrospectively and an overview of traffic flows in and out of the city is compiled.

Most of the lenses are the 35mm model which is a C mount unit with an iris range of F2.0 – F22 and a manual iris drive.

SENKOADL uses high-resolution Japanese lens technology and extraordinary low dispersion (ED) glass. But unlike many of its competitors from the region, the company has a sizable European presence with offices and extensive warehousing in Berkshire, England.

This means that installers, system consultants and end-users working in the EC can be confident of quick turnaround, rapid unit replacement and first-rate after sales support through access to skilled engineers.

The company excels in units for demanding light conditions and 24-hour surveillance with its ¡°pro¡± series of lenses being a comprehensive range that accommodates the focus shift between white and infrared light.
