Robust R&D efforts yield enhanced face recognition products

Cognitec Systems announced the successful deployment of its latest search engine, known as B3T7, through the release of updates to its world-leading face recognition products.

As previously announced by the company, this latest search engine exhibits considerably enhanced performance over the company¡¯s thoroughly successful search engine independently tested through the Face Recognition Vendor Test (FRVT) 2006.

The results of the FRVT 2006, conducted by the U.S. National Institute of Standards and echnology, first published on March 30, 2007, confirmed the outstanding performance of the company¡¯s well-known face recognition technology.

With these recent product updates, the company¡¯s product portfolio now greatly benefits from the additional performance boost provided by the new B3T7 algorithm, as evidenced by recent tests.  More specifically, using one common test on publicly available image databases, the FERET Duplicate I test, the false rejection rate for this improved search engine has decreased from 3.7% to 2.6% (at a false acceptance rate of 0.1%), depicting a marked relative improvement of almost 30%.

On another sample database, which includes particular examples of extremely unfavorable lighting conditions, the false rejection rate decreased from 20% to 5% (again, at a false acceptance rate of 0.1%), a relative improvement of 75%.  These test results, which are particularly relevant for the deployment of face recognition products in real-world applications, point to the superior system performance characteristics now available through the company¡¯s face recognition platform.

New product releases now available that include the new recognition technology are:

  • FaceVACS-SDK 6.0, a software development kit that allows Cognitec¡¯s partners direct access to the Company¡¯s face recognition engine for the development of new applications;
  • FaceVACS-Alert 4.0, a software package optimized for the real-time analysis of video streams such as those used in surveillance scenarios; and
  • FaceVACS-DBScan 4.0, a software package optimized for the efficient search through large image databases.

¡°We are very pleased with the outstanding performance of the new face recognition technology developed through our measured and focused R&D efforts,¡± commented Alfredo Herrera, Cognitec¡¯s Managing Director.  ¡°In our quest to continually provide innovative and best-in-class face recognition solutions, we now provide an updated product line to our partners and end-users that again demonstrates our capability to deliver superior technology to help solve challenging, real-world, face recognition problems.  This enhanced product offering demonstrates Cognitec¡¯s unrelenting commitment to augment our technological leadership position through innovative and best-in-class face recognition solutions.¡±
