SECON Reaffirms Its Position as No. 1 Security Event in South Korea

Asia¡¯s leading security expo SECON drew increased numbers of exhibitors and buyers in 2013.

 

SEOUL, South Korea -- SECON 2013 (International Security Conference & Exhibition 2013) (http://www.seconexpo.com), the largest trade fair of its kind in South Korea and the flagship security exhibition in Asia, which was held from 6th~8th of March, concluded with yet another success. More than 280 exhibitors featured their latest security products and services across over 530 booths. SECON 2013 attracted about 32,000 visitors from across the globe.

 

SECON 2013 was sponsored by three South Korean ministries--the Ministry of Knowledge Economy, the Ministry of Public Administration and Security and the Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs, and one local government?Gyeonggi Provice.

 

It was co-organized by influential security media SecurityWorld Magazine and Boannews Daily and security associations in South Korea including Korea Defense Industry Trade Support Center, Korea Electronics Technology Institute, Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute, the Korean Association for Industrial Technology Security, Intelligent Transport System of Korea, Knowledge Information Security Industry Association, Korea Association of Chief Security Officer, Korea Digital CCTV Research Association, Korea Safety Security Association of Technology Education, Korean Institute of Security, ASIS International (Seoul Branch), Korea Corporate Security Managers Council, Korea CCTV Industry Association, and Korean Police Studies Association.

 

Exhibitors at SECON 2013 presented their latest technology innovations in Video Surveillance, Access Control, Biometric Recognition, Alarm Monitoring as well as Homeland Security, Risk Management, Intelligent Transportation and IT security. SECON 2013 brought manufacturers, dealers & installers, system integrators, and corporate end-users of security products and services from across the globe together to learn, evaluate, and competitively source in a highly productive environment.

 

 

Total Exhibition Covering the Whole Security Industry
SECON 2013 was the premier technology event for security, featuring the industrys latest technologies, platforms, strategies and innovations. SECON 2013 consisted of Integrated Security Equipment expo, Homeland Security expo, Forensic Investigation & Anti-Terror Equipment expo, Intelligent Transportation System expo and e-Government Information Security Solution Fair.

 

Co-Organized by Industry, Schools, Research Institutes and Government
Security-related organizations in South Korea worked to co-organize SECON 2013. As a result, industry, schools, research institutes and the government united under one theme?security--thus creating a valuable opportunity to connect with the core of the security industry.

 

Developing the Industry and Facilitating the Market
The latest security products and solutions were on display and for demonstration. Real-time exchange of practical information led to real purchases and deals, thus contributed to demand generation and market stimulation. With all this, SECON 2013 made a valuable contribution towards increasing the security competitiveness in South Korea and Asia.

 

SECON Resonates South Korea¡¯s Security Industry History
SECON is the new name for SecurityWorld Expo, which has been driving the growth of the security industry in South Korea for the past 12 years. SECON is continuing its growth, in particular internationally, and has become the flagship security exhibition in Asia.

SECON has been managed by SecurityWorld magazine which has been around for 17 years and Boannews (
www.boannews.com), South Korea¡¯s largest online newspaper for security. With SecurityWorld magazine and Boannews, SECON has been communicating with the industry 365 days a year and serving as a bridge between the industry and the government to drive industry growth and market expansion.

 

 

Visitor Breakdown
Among the total visitors of 32,000, 14.3% were from the central government/local governments and government agencies/public organizations. 16.7% of the visitors were CSOs, CISOs, CPOs. 16.4% of the visitors were IT, computing and network managers attended. IT, computing and network managers are the ones who take care of security when their companies have no security managers.
Among the total visitors, 7.7% were CEOs. This shows that CEOs, the final legal person in charge for corporations or organization, are paying keen and growing attention on security.
Important to note is purchasing managers (4.6) who would make actual purchasing decisions on security equipment and solutions have showed up on the exhibition floor, which means they would no longer depend on written proposals submitted by a few security companies, but would personally evaluate and compare security products and solutions before making any purchases.
33% of the visitors to SECON 2013 showed interest in CCTV and IP surveillance and 31% of the total visitors were interested in network security and information protection.
SECON 2013 visitors showed interest in a variety of security fields such as access control (14%), biometric recognition (7%) which has been gaining attention again recently, homeland security, safety and disaster prevention. Visitors¡¯ interest has expanded and spans the whole industry segments from security to safety.
Examining the purpose of visitors to SECON 2013, 35% or 11,138 people visited SECON 2013 to search and purchase security products. 23% or 7,258 traveled to SECON 2013 for market research while 16% for market development, 10% for seminar participation and 8% for partner search. According to the feedback from the visitors, SECON 2013 has served as a much-needed marketplace for search and purchase of security products in time for the public orderings in the first half of 2013.


With participation by diverse security players from key Asian countries and its location based in South Korea famous for high-tech innovation, skilled workforce and business-friendly infrastructure, SECON was yet again recognized as the most preferred destination for security companies looking to increase their presence and expand their business in Asia.

 

Next year¡¯s SECON will be held from March 12~14, 2014, at the Korea International Exhibition Center (KINTEX), South Korea.
