In 1983, when CEO Samuel Lin was requested by Taiwan Telecommunication about producing the coin identifiers for them, PONGEE Industries was established.
When CEO Samuel Lin was servicing as a sales engineer at National Semiconductor, he offered the new idea of coin identifier by electro-magnetic method instead of the traditional identification by physical dimension or shape to the customers for service only.
After he completed the prototype sample for them and approved by the Taiwan government for the public pay phone system, PONGEE was requested to help produce the products.
PONGEE kept good relationship with the company and offered the consequent technical support for them, such as completing the whole pay phone system by MCU to replace the earlier systems by lots of discrete CMOS ICs. Furthermore, in order to support the prepaid card pay phone system, PONGEE studied the magnetic card technologies.
Later, PONGEE applied the magnetic card technology into the hotel automation and key lock system as well as the access and time attendance systems.
In addition, for the hotel automation system, PONGEE researched the electric strikes and other locks. The ¡®Pegasus¡¯ brand is registered by PONGEE for marketing its products. The company has completed its access control systems since 1985, and developed a lot of products to answer the customer requirements. Along the way, PONGEE innovated a number of products including small-sized time recorders, lift access controllers, PC-based remote access systems and long-range hands-free access systems.
Currently, PONGEE is concentrating on developing a lot of products for access control as well as time attendance in hardware, firmware and software to enrich its ¡®one-stop shopping¡¯ policies. Pongee provides and develops a complete series of Magnetic card readers either stand-alone or network-based with the associated multi-channel controllers, electric strike and electro-magnetic locks, etc. to be applied in simple access control, central controlled building automation system, time recorder, ATM foyer access, etc. In addition, Pongee¡¯s controllers can be interfaced with more high technology identification devices such as Proximity, Wiegand readers and RFID card readers which can identify the card from up to 3-6 meters away for vehicle access control.
Samuel Lin, CEO of PONGEE Industries
PONGEE is not only developing new products to meet customers requirements, but it continues to improve the functions of its existing products. To satisfy customers changing requirements, PONGEE¡¯s R&D team is always restlessly developing new products to service them. For this purpose, the company developed lots products based on RFID technology such as air conditioner pre-paid card systems for management of student dormitories, ESD (Electric Static Discharge) systems combined with access controllers for factory production control, RFID applications for production lines as well as for logistic management.
Korea is a prosperous and fast growing security market with huge marketing potential. In the field of access and time attendance, there are lots of local makers. In Korea, a lot of peripheral products such as RFID readers, electrical locks and even access controllers are imported from China. PONGEE¡¯s competitive strength is in offering reliable products or support for various RFID modules for local makers and products designers. In addition, PONGEE is specialized in ODM offering to support customer-oriented applications.
CEO Lin sees an obstacle PONGEE faces in Korea is ¡®Patriotic Sentiment¡¯. ¡°Korean people love their country very much and Korean brands are always their first choice. Foreign brands are very hard to occupy this market. However, to tackle this challenge, we cooperate with some Korean companies doing OEM and ODM business with them to benefit both of us,¡± Lin said.
PONGEE tries to find partners to cooperate with not only for local market distribution, but also for research and product development. ¡°Local partners know local people and their demand. And we have quality technologies in access control and time attendance. With the Korean partners, we think we can develop a lot of products through combination of kernel techniques such as RF, signal decoding, either analogue as well as digital algorism according to customer demand. We have good experience in developing customer-oriented products and can guarantee satisfaction,¡± Lin added.
PONGEE has its own brand ¡®Pegasus¡¯ under which it markets its access control products. The Pegasu brand has been registered in Taiwan and many countries by Pongee Industries Co., Ltd. since 1987. However, one of PONGEE¡¯s earlier distributors in India infringed the intelligent properties of PONGEE by using the Pegasus logo for the products they imported from China. The Pegasus brand completely belongs to Pongee Company of Taiwan.
