The security market in Korea is expected ato reach US$3.57 billion in 2012, a 12.5% increase from 2011. In particular, the security market in Korea is forecast to achieve the US$4 billion mark in 2012, securing its spot in the nation’s high-growth industry sectors.
In 2012, Electronic Monitoring System or EMS for unmanned operations is expected to account for 39.7% in the market while Video Surveillance including CCTV cameras, DVRs, IP surveillance equipment and video transmission systems is estimated to take up about 36.3% and Access Control and Alarm Monitoring are forecast to occupy 9.8% respectively.
About 350,000 CCTV systems are estimated to have installed at the government offices, public organizations and municipalities, 42% of them or 145,000 units are used for crime prevention, child safety, and disaster and fire prevention while 8.7% or 30,000 units are used for traffic enforcement and trash dumping prevention. In addition, 49.3% or 175,000 units are used to manage facilities such as subways, railroads, post offices and parking lots.
The Ministry of Public Administration and Security has already announced that it would significantly increase its budget for crime prevention and disaster management. The Ministry will spend about US$44.5 million in building video information systems such as CCTVs, an increase of US$7.8 million compared to 2011. Moreover, the Ministry will build Integrated CCTV Monitoring Centers in 230 cities and towns by 2015 to integrate more than 100,000 CCTV systems that are currently operated to prevent crimes, protect children and monitor disasters.
