INTERVIEW
Cooper Security is the name behind two of the best known security brands: Scantronic and Menvier. Its product range includes advanced intruder alarm systems, integrated access control as well as a full range of radio telemetry peripherals. Scantronic and Menvier products are the proven choice of today¡¯s specialist system integrator with control panels that handle systems from as little as eight zones right up to fully integrated network systems suited to industrial sites, commercial property, schools, hospitals and residential applications. In this interview with Jeanny Lim, Editor-in-Chief of SecurityWorld INTL, Dave Lunn, Managing Director of Cooper Security, talks about what makes Cooper Security stand out.
¡°Today my focus is on making sure we have the right product roadmap to give us the security solutions required for the future.¡±
In todays hotly contested business environment, what are your competitive edges that differentiate your company from other security equipment providers?
The latest Scantronic EN Range and Menvier M-Series ranges use common software and the extensive range of common keypads and expansion peripherals, either wired or radio, making installer training easier and quicker than before. As a consequence of this commonality of peripherals, substantial savings in inventory holdings are to be made. It also provides extra flexibility when it comes to future system expansion.
The latest panels feature an integral USB port allowing the installer to fully upload a 264-zone system configuration in less than seven seconds, making commissioning simpler than ever before.
Please tell us if there has been any notable achievement Cooper Security has made recently.
Our Scantronic EN Range has been particularly successful across Europe. The smallest panel in the range is the 65EN. This has been nominated for the prestigious PSI Premier Awards for the Intruder Alarm Panel of the Year 2008. This panel benefits from all the common peripherals. It is now even faster and easier to install the 65EN as it can be wired in a star configuration with addressable nodes rather than in series.
In what areas are you focusing your product development efforts?
Cooper is very focused on providing electronic security solutions for the high volume Commercial and Residential markets. Residential is a huge growth market across the globe and the challenge is on to find a solution that we fit every territory. We proactively look at technology to see how we leverage it in our designs to set us apart from the competition.
Where do you see the current security threats your products are guarding against in 5 years from now? What kind of evolution do you expect?
I see little change in the scope of the threat. Our products are aimed at providing electronic intruder solutions. This means we provide a first line of deferent and notification against both the opportunist thief or more organized gang.
Please comment on your management philosophy.
Cooper Security is a subsidiary of Cooper Industries, based in Houston Texas, the U.S.A. Having previously worked for GE, I found a lot of similarity in the management style, with a lot of focus on meeting commitments, investing in talented people, and targeting growth markets. Today my focus is on making sure we have the right product roadmap to give us the security solutions required for the future. One day, we will walk up to our front door which will automatically open, the alarm will auto unset and before you have finished saying hello to the cat, the kettle has boiled and your dinner is ready in the microwave.
