QinetiQ, the international defence and security technology company, is pleased to announce the appointment of Clive Richardson as managing director of its European, Middle Eastern and Australasian operations, with effect from 1 June 2007. In this role, he will be responsible for all of QinetiQ¡¯s operations except for QinetiQ North America and QinetiQ Ventures.

Richardson
joins QinetiQ from BAE Systems Insyte, an operating subsidiary of BAE Systems, where he is chief executive officer. Insyte, which has 4,000 UK staff, develops and manufactures sensors, combat management systems and surveillance and command systems for the defence and homeland security markets. Richardson¡¯s career with BAE Systems and its predecessors spans 18 years, and includes positions as managing director of its operating subsidiary Royal Ordnance, director of British Aerospace Defence Systems Group and commercial and legal director of BAe Airbus.
Commenting on the appointment, QinetiQ¡¯s chief executive Graham Love said: ¡°I am delighted to welcome Clive Richardson to QinetiQ. His impressive track record and in-depth knowledge of the defence industry will be enormously important to us as we continue to grow our UK defence business in technology supply, support and managed services, and to develop our provision of these services globally.¡±
Clive Richardson said: ¡°I am very much looking forward to leading QinetiQ¡¯s EMEA business, and contributing to the delivery of QinetiQ¡¯s successful growth strategy. There is an extremely sound base on which to build, and I am excited at the prospect of being part of the management team that will take QinetiQ forward.¡±
A barrister by training, Richardson is a member of the National Defence Industries Council, the organisation which aims to ensure that the interests of the UK defence industry and the MOD converge. He is also director and vice president defence for Intellect, the body which represents companies within the IT, telecoms and electronics sector.
Further senior management changes, effective from 1 April 2007, see Andrew Sleigh, currently managing director of the UK Defence & Technology sector, take up the new position of group chief technology officer. His role will focus on providing technical leadership, driving investment strategy and ensuring that QinetiQ continues to harness technology to provide ¡®brilliant solutions to important problems¡¯ for its growing customer base in the defence, security and commercial markets. Hal Kruth, currently managing director of the UK Security & Dual Use sector, will become chairman of QinetiQ Ventures, responsible for delivering value from the portfolio of start-ups and joint ventures created to commercialize QinetiQ¡¯s technologies.
