Please introduce ObjectVideo to our readers.
ObjectVideo has been devoted itself to developing video content analytics since 1998. We got a start through some research projects being done at the U.S. Department of Defence and we took that core technology and turned it into a piece of software that automates the process of watching video surveillance. In the physical security system, people invest millions of dollars to put in place video surveillance systems. But the problem is if people put into so many cameras, it is totally impossible to watch them all. Even if it was possible, people are not good at identifying threats when they take place since almost nothing interesting happens while people are monitoring -- people get easily exhausted and bored. |
It is extremely important to use some sort of intelligence behind the cameras to interpret whats happing in the video scenes and to provide information that is something important to people. Thats what were doing.
Please briefly explain to us about ObjectVideo software.
Object video started in a single application which was physical security protection of critical infrastructure such as airports, seaports and nuclear power plans. As we started to install intelligence video systems we discovered that the functionality we have was suitable with more than just physical security applications. So, we branched into other areas such as retail, banking and transportation. ObjectVideo software turns surveillance video into the data which can be used with different purposes in individual vertical markets. That data can integrated with different systems to get different applications for different vertical markets.
WPG System represents ObjectVideo to OEMs in Asia, providing secure reference designs for a variety of ObjectVideo OnBoard-equipped products. Why did you select WPG as your representative in Asia?
WPG and the parent company understand the Integrated Circuit (IC) business. They have accumulated experience how to get into the market from their existing relationships with Intel, Texas Instruments and other companies. WPG has reached throughout Asia. We were searching for a single company who is able to represent ObjectVideo in each country where we thought there was a lot of big market. The other approach is to go with individual companies, one per country. Its difficult for relatively small ObjectVideo to manage all individual relationships. So WPG takes it all, whole Asia. A single interface point is far more efficient and easier.
What`s your next challenge?
Fundamentally people understand the need for video analytics, which I think was the first challenge and now people understand the necessity. We have two directions to go. One is serving higher definition, more channels dealing with bigger and bigger videos. The other is an opposite direction -- low cost and single-function analytic devices. We need to expand our science vision up and down. Another challenge is we want to help global warming. We are creating a new product that is going to be used for building automation applications. Today, buildings consume lots of electricity in the form of lighting, heating and air condition. This consuming electrical function is typically provided regardless of people where people arent in the building. Our technology helps building automation companies locate exactly where people are and allow them to create a system that provides heading, lighting and air conditioning only where people are.
