LG expands its home networking business in Middle East

Global and regional digital leader LG Electronics has unveiled its ambitious strategy to play a key role in the regions construction boom by launching LG HomNet, an intelligent home network solution that provides a convenient and secure lifestyle with the integration of digital home solutions.

The digital leader also announced that it had won contracts totally valued at US$30 million to outfit 1,200 homes in the UAE with comprehensive and tailored solutions. These include prestigious projects such as Santeville Tower and U-Bora Tower, both in Business Bay, as well as Al Naseem Tower in Sharjah. Speaking at a press conference in Dubai today, Mr. C. H. Lee, President of LG Electronics Gulf FZE, pointed out that an increasing number of real estate developers and home owners in the Middle East were now recognising the need for affordable smart home technology and incorporating it into the design from the construction phase itself. LG is already the frontrunner in creating converged home network appliances - the electronics of the future, Lee said. We have already installed HomNet systems in approximately 35,000 premium apartments in Korea and 1,650 homes in Shenzhen and Tianjin, China, and we are keen to emulate that success in the Middle East. The LG HomNet is the latest addition to our portfolio, with cutting-edge technology breaking barriers in home networking solutions. The singularly distinguishing feature of HomNet is that it is affordable, while maintaining the high innovation standards that LG is synonymous with, Lee added. While technologically enhanced features enable these projects to be completely connected through a single server, LG HomNet is also an affordable and user-friendly solution. Through a single server, all apartments in a residential tower are connected to each other, maximizing efficiency while minimizing personal costs. In one comprehensive package, LG HomNet integrates eight different solutions - Community Portal, Home Tasking, Home Management, Home Entertainment, Home Safety, Home Communication, Well-Being and Community Management. The key to successful HomNet deployment is simplicity and convenience, added Lee. The technology is designed to be completely transparent and gives homeowners the ability to control lighting, air conditioning, audio/visual and security functions throughout the residence with the touch of a button on a liquid crystal display panel. LG HomNet links people to their homes using a variety of devices and technologies, including televisions, Internet, digital cameras, personal computers, PDAs and mobile phones. People can control their home networks either while at home or while on the move. As a result, heating, cooling, ventilation, appliances, entertainment and security systems can all operate automatically by computer, telephone or touchpad. The advantage of this combination is an experience that makes peoples lives both more secure and comfortable. While HomNet technology was developed with the principal motive of ensuring convenience, many users see an additional benefit - safety. In a HomNet system equipped home, power is provided only to those outlets that have appliances plugged in and turned on, and HomNet controllers monitor the circuits and disconnect power at the first indication of a short circuit or electrical failure. A second benefit is energy savings. Power supplied to each appliance can also be adjusted according to need. As a result, temperature, humidity and lighting in a home can be controlled on a room-by-room basis.
