Security for Child Protection Zones to be bolstered

The Seoul Metropolitan Government has announced that it would launch a project to improve security of the 63 Child Protection Zones that it has been operating in order to prevent any more car accidents from happening in the zones.

The number of car accidents involving children under age 12 that happened in the Child Protection Zones in Seoul has declined over the past two years from 127 in 2011 to 95 in 2012. However, in order to reduce the number remarkably, Seoul will carry out a project dedicated to improving the security of Child Protection Zones.

As a part of the project, the city will install 409 more CCTV systems in the Child Protection Zones this year to crack down on illegal parking and prevent crimes in the zones. In addition, it will install traffic safety structures proper to child safety and regional conditions including setting up sign posts to help children to better identify the Child Protection Zones and constructing raised crosswalks.
