Health card reader launched

SCM Microsystems has rolled out eHealth100 terminal to support the German Electronic Health Card program.

It reads and operates both with Germanys current memory card-based health card as well as with the new intelligent smart card-based health card, ensuring a seamless migration during the countrys transition to a new e-health card system.

The eHealth100 is compliant for use with three different card types: electronic health cards (eGK), scheduled to be issued to 82 million citizens; health professional cards (HPC), which allow all healthcare professionals in the system to securely access and edit patient data; and Secure Module Cards (SMC) in ID-000 format for secure data communication with the programs secure "telematics"network.  It also supports multiple host interfaces and provides two smart card slots as well as two SAM slots in an elegant and compact design.

The eHeath100 is the first terminal to be certified as compliant with MKT+ (multi-functional terminal) and SICCT (Secure Interoperable Chip Card Terminal) specifications.
